US First Trans Soldier

Shane Ortega was kicked out of the US military for being trans despite serving 3 military tours and a clean record of service.  He's a helicopter pilot that was grounded temporarily for being trans and is happy to be back serving.  Obviously, this won't be easy and he knows it:
Honestly, I have to be perfect right now. Like, I couldn’t get a speeding ticket. I can’t be late. I can’t forget to shave one day of the week. When Morgan saw Wells, he jumped into his arms, where they kissed and it was caught on camera by someone in the crowd. The photo went viral and really marked the progress made by repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

HBO Documentary on Don't Ask Don't Tell

On September 20th HBO aired a documentary on the strange history of Don't Ask Don't Tell in the US military. It is fantastic and an eye opener on how some backwoods politicians can pass policies that are ridiculous.
