Merle Haggard Leaves Estate to LGBT Group


The world lost a country legend on April 6 when Merle Haggard passed away.  I grew up listening to his music with my grand parents.  I didn't know he was such a huge supporter of equal rights.  He left his entire estate to Interpride Enterprises, a California based LGBT group that puts on Pride parades around the worldThe group plans on doing something special this year in his honour at San Francisco's pride.

San Fran St. Patrick's Day Parade to Include LGBT

There are gay Irish all over the world and now they will be able to participate in the San Francisco St. Patrick's Day Parade.  The city will be one of the few large urban centres to include an LGBT organization and I hope the trend takes off elsewhere.

Gay NFL Star?

Could San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick be the first NFL star that comes out?  He apparently was seen getting close with openly gay circuit DJ Luis Perez at the Sports Illustrated Super Bowl party.  Although, when the first pictures went up of the two together they were taken down pretty quickly.  This makes me think he won't be coming out any time soon unless he is forced to.

Up Yours Proposition 8

A federal appeals court in San Francisco ruled that Proposition 8 violates the 14th amendment. I'm not sure what that amendment is but finally this awful form of hate will end. Here's what the judge Stephen Reinhardt had to say about his decision:
All that Proposition 8 accomplished was to take away from same sex couples the right to be granted marriage licenses and thus legally to use the designation 'marriage.' Proposition 8 serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gay men and lesbians in California.
