Obama Pride: LGBT Americans for Obama

Jane Lynch, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Billie Jean King, George Takei, Wanda Sykes, Zachary Quinto, and Chaz Bono share why they're supporting President Obama and why Mitt Romney isn't the choice for them.  It gives me shivers to think how far the United States has come and how quickly that can all change.  If you are eligible, please vote.

Chaz and Cher at GLAAD Awards

Leave it to Cher to make an entrance wherever she goes.  Cher, Chaz and his stepmother Mary Bono Mack all showed up for the GLAAD awards and it caused quite the stir.  Chaz was presented an award for his contributions to transgender visibility and promotion of LGBT equality.  Most importantly, check out Cher's afro.  Only she would pull that one off.

Chaz Bono and Jennifer Elia Split

The former couple has released a statement confirming that they have indeed ended both their engagement and their six year relationship. Bono's rep told TMZ that the two were "no longer a couple," but the two are at least trying for an amicable split. "They leave this relationship with great love, respect and affection toward one another," Bono's rep continues. "No further amplification will be forthcoming and they ask that you respect their privacy at this time."

Chaz Bono Blows the Quickstep

I really hope Chaz Bono doesn't get kicked off Dancing With the Stars but he did the quickstep this week and he looked like he was in slow motion. It was more than a little painful to watch. Hopefully he can redeem himself next week!

Cher Calls Ellen Show About Chaz

Cher called during her son Chaz Bono's appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres's show and she had a very strong opinion towards the trans haters who've complained about Chaz on Dancing With the Stars.
If you got that excess time and that amount of hostility, I'm not so sure that I can say anything to you that would make you change your feelings. Those are feelings of such hostility and fear I don't know that I would have any magic words to make you feel more comfortable and to soothe you into not being terrified of my child dancing on Dancing With the Fucking Stars.

Chaz and Jennifer at the Emmys

Chaz Bono and his lovely partner Jennifer Elia at the Emmy's. I really, really hate Chaz's beard, but other than that they make a cute couple. Do you think Elia likes the beard? Is it just me that thinks it's gross? He'd look so much better clean-shaven.

Cher Shows Support For Chaz

Cher isn't happy with the controversy surrounding her son Chaz Bono's participation on the next season of Dancing With The Stars. She is going to make a surprise visit on the show to show her support but of course we can't know which one. In response, last night on the news I saw a nut job from Focus on the Family telling all Christians they should boycott the show. I hope the ratings go through the roof and their hatred bites them in the ass.

Melissa Joan Hart Defends Chaz Bono

Dancing With the Stars has come under fire for considering to have Chaz Bono dance on the show with a female partner. People really need to get their heads out of their asses and start worrying about things that actually matter. Here's what she had to say:
I don’t even think that’s relevant. You’ve had elderly people, you have teenagers, dancers, people who have never been in front of a camera, and you’ve had a woman with one leg. I mean, you have a lot of challenges there. I don’t think being transgendered is really a challenge. He is a notable person, and an icon’s son, or daughter, or whatever, and I think that that’s going to draw a lot of attention. He wrote a book, people follow him on Twitter, it’s like, the people who are on that show are fascinating and they have a large draw.

Chaz Bono Signs for Dancing With the Stars

According to TMZ, Chaz Bono has signed on to do the next season of Dancing With the Stars. Chaz will be paired with a female pro dancer, which is not even remotely surprising since he's a straight man, but I can't help but remember that they said at this point that only Portia de Rossi would be allowed to do a same sex dance pairing. I'm glad this doesn't knock trans men off the list, but I still have some reservations with the appeal to a "conservative audience." Let's see how they treat Chaz when he gets on there and maybe I'll ease my opinions a bit.

Cher On Late Show With David Letterman

Cher appeared on the Late Show With David Letterman on Thursday and discussed her son Chaz's gender transition. The gay icon talks about how she struggled with pronouns at times as Letterman asked questions about topics like the difference between gender identity and sexual orientation. I think she does a great job and I'm glad she is so supportive and vocal.

Cher on Chaz's Gender Transition

Cher will be on the cover of Vanity Fair this December and tells the magazine how she struggles with her son Chaz Bono’s gender transition. She describes the issues she faces but remains a proud mother.
If I woke up tomorrow in a guy’s body, I would just kick and scream and cry and fucking rob a bank, because I cannot see myself as anything but who I am — a girl. I would not take it as well as Chaz has. I couldn’t imagine it. She’s a very smart girl — boy! This is where I get into trouble. My pronouns are f#%ked. I still don’t remember to call her ‘him.

Chaz Bono Changes His Name

Chaz filled out an application at the court office to officially change his name from Chastity to Chaz Bono. He began his gender transition in 2009 and this is going to take him one step closer to completion. I'm happy he's being public about his life but seriously buddy, reconsider the striped tops.....ugh.

Chaz Bono Transitioning Well (and Shaving More)

Chaz Bono's transition seems to be coming along nicely. He has undergone top surgery and is now starting to have to do a man's chore - shaving his face.

"I shave about once a week now. It kind of started to come in just like peach fuzz. I always wanted to shave. It is a very natural process. For my birthday I got a lot of shaving stuff. Still not anywhere near what I will look like, but really for the first time I am feeling much more comfortable with how I look physically," he says. "The most important thing about this for me is that my outsides are finally starting to match my insides. I feel like I'm living in my body for the first time, and it feels really good."

I have to admit, I'm thankful I don't have to shave my face. I'm not an attractive man at all (as anyone who has seen me in drag can second) and the dozens of cuts that shaving would result in would only make it that much more terrible. Hopefully Chaz is better at these things than I am...

Chaz's New Girl

It appears that Chaz has a new love in his life, new girlfriend Jennifer Elia. She is smoking hot and I really want to know where she has been hiding! They hit the red carpet together at the Outfest's opening night gala for L.A. Mission. Hopefully, they date for a while and I'll get to see her picture a few more times, just for research sake of course.....

Chaz Hits the Gym, Finds the Loophole.

Chaz Bono may have to hit the gym before he's allowed to undergo gender reassignment surgery. He began taking hormones a couple of weeks ago, but has to lose some weight before going under the knife. I think that's fairly standard for major surgury. 'Cause, you know, I'm also a doctor.

The unexpected thing I hadn't realized could happen is that now that Chaz is becoming a man in the legal sense he may have the option to marry his partner. Strange how the same person can be denied that right, then granted it based on being a different type of queer. That being said, I'm glad they at least allow trans people to be equal in California.

Chaz Has the Moms' Support

Chaz Bono has both his mother's and step-mother's support during his transition and gender reassignment. Cher, who initially struggled with Chaz's sexuality, issued a statement to People in support of her son:

Chaz is embarking on a difficult journey, but one that I will support. I respect the courage it takes to go through this transition in the glare of public scrutiny and although I may not understand I will strive to be understanding. The one thing that will never change is my abiding love for my child.
Excellent avoidance of gender pronouns. (That wasn't sarcastic, I really do like that.) His stepmother, congressperson Mary Bono Mack, is also supporting his transition:

Chaz has always been a loving and important part of our family who has supported us all through thick and thin. This is a very difficult decision that Chaz has fully vetted, and over the past decade, has discussed the matter thoroughly and consulted therapists and medical experts. As he moves forward, I will be there to support him and love him every step of the way.
Nice to see strong family support. If you care, Chaz, I support you in this, too. Just so you know.

Chastity Bono Transitioning into Chaz Bono.

Chaz Bono (formerly Chastity Bono) has identified as trans and is begining his transition. His publicist, Howard Bragman, released the following statement:
Yes, it's true -- Chaz, after many years of consideration, has made the courageous decision to honor his true identity. He is proud of his decision and grateful for the support and respect that has already been shown by his loved ones. It is Chaz's hope that his choice to transition will open the hearts and minds of the public regarding this issue, just as his 'coming out' did nearly 20 years ago. We ask that the media respect Chaz's privacy during this long process as he will not be doing any interviews at this time.
I think this is officially the most famous trans person I know about (at least who was famous for something outside of their gender identity.) It's a brave decision. Congratulations.
