Merle Haggard Leaves Estate to LGBT Group

The world lost a country legend on April 6 when Merle Haggard passed away.  I grew up listening to his music with my grand parents.  I didn't know he was such a huge supporter of equal rights.  He left his entire estate to Interpride Enterprises, a California based LGBT group that puts on Pride parades around the worldThe group plans on doing something special this year in his honour at San Francisco's pride.

Melissa Etheridge Married

Congratulations to Melissa Etheridge who married Linda Wallem this past weekend in California.  The two were best friends for years and then hooked up.  Here's hoping this one doesn't turn as ugly as Melissa's last marriage.

Trans Homecoming Queen

Cassidy Lynn Campbell is a trans teen who made headlines when she was voted the Homecoming queen at Marina High School in Huntington Beach, California.  She was so excited and proud of her win until the attacks started online.  She decided to overcome the disgusting bullies and pose for the NOH8 campaign.  She is truly inspirational and hopefully she helps other trans kids who are struggling.

Ellen's Blog on Gay Marriage

Ellen has written this blog as a message to the Supreme Court as they decide on Proposition 8.  I think it's beautiful and shows how much she truly loves her wife Portia.  I hope they look at this and seriously consider how they are affecting the community.

California’s Proposition 8 is headed to the Supreme Court. Hundreds of companies and families as well as Republicans are submitting briefs urging the 9 judges to allow gay people to marry. I thought that was ridiculous. Why would judges want all of that underwear? Then, after a quick talk with some people, I found out what a brief was. I’ve never filed a brief to the Supreme Court, so I thought I would post mine here. I’m sure someone will tweet it to them. Portia and I have been married for 4 years and they have been the happiest of my life. And in those 4 years, I don’t think we hurt anyone else’s marriage. I asked all of my neighbours and they say they’re fine. But even though Portia and I got married in the short period of time when it was legal in California, there are 1,138 federal rights for married couples that we don’t have, including some that protect married people from losing their homes, or their savings or custody of their children. The truth is, Portia and I aren’t as different from you as you might think. We’re just trying to find happiness in the bodies and minds we were given, like everyone else. Coming out was one of the hardest things I ever did. I didn’t intend to be on the cover ofTime magazine saying, “Yep, I’m gay.” The truth is, I don’t even remember saying that. I mean, I definitely said the “I’m gay” part. It’s the “yep” I don’t remember. I’m not really a “yep” person. “Yes siree Bob” maybe. But not “yep." In the words of Benjamin Franklin, “We’re here, we’re queer, get over it.” And there’s another famous quote that says “A society is judged by how it treats its weakest members.” I couldn’t agree with that more. No one’s really sure who said it first, so if anyone asks, tell them I said it. I hope the Supreme Court will do the right thing, and let everyone enjoy the same rights. It’s going to help keep families together. It’s going to make kids feel better about who they are. And it is time. I was just told Benjamin Franklin did not say that first quote. I apologize and see that I have a lot to learn about stuff.

Frank Ocean Being a Bad Boy

Frank Ocean has had an amazing year but he may have been celebrating a bit too much. He was pulled over in California for going 90 mph in a 65 mph zone. Not so bad....but then the cops smelled pot.  He was charged for marijuana possession, plus he was driving on an already suspended license, and for tinted windows.  Yikes, I guess if you are going to screw up go hard or go home.

More Reasons to Love Adam Levine

Adam Levine has always been a supporter for gay rights and his latest move makes me love him even more. He boycotted a Mexican restaurant that supported Proposition 8 and let everyone know how he felt about it.
We used to go to this Mexican restaurant to celebrate after the Grammys but the place supported the movement to make gay marriage illegal in California so we bailed on that.

Bull Shit.

I've been to depressed by the disgusting results of the vote on Prop 8 to update about what celebrities are wearing. My condolences to all of California for having to live in a place with legalized discrimination where basic equality can be stripped from minority groups by the votes of bigots.

Fuck everyone who voted yes.

Videos and PSA's Galore for Florida Vote No on 2, California Vote No on 8 and Arizona Vote No on 102.

New Florida "Vote No on 2" video.

A somewhat controversial "Vote No on 2" video by Michael Shiavo, husband of the late Terri Shiavo.

Margaret Cho's Vote No on Prop 8 video.

Not the best videos I've seen, but I'm all for anything that defeats these guys.

Here's a very good one from a while back. Very worth watching.

And let's not forget Arizona's "Vote no for Prop 102," for which I don't have a PSA. I do, on the other hand have a news clip about people vandalizing "Yes to Prop 102" signs.
