Merle Haggard Leaves Estate to LGBT Group

The world lost a country legend on April 6 when Merle Haggard passed away.  I grew up listening to his music with my grand parents.  I didn't know he was such a huge supporter of equal rights.  He left his entire estate to Interpride Enterprises, a California based LGBT group that puts on Pride parades around the worldThe group plans on doing something special this year in his honour at San Francisco's pride.

Country Music Fans Upset Over Girl Crush

I adore the country band Little Big Town and when I heard they had a new song called Girl Crush I was giddy with excitement.  It's an amazing song but sadly not the lesbian angle I imagined in my head.  The lyrics are beautiful and about a woman's jealousy of another who has her guy but apparently some country fans aren't actually listening.  Multiple stations in the USA have started pulling the song off the airwaves because of complaints of the inappropriate lyrics.  Take the pitch fork out of your ass and take a moment to actually listen.  Who am I kidding?  You like the pitch fork up there to much to give up your ignorance.

Ty Herndon Debuts Boyfriend

Country singer Ty Herndon made his first appearance with his boyfriend Matt Collum since coming out.  This was a big thing for Ty:
So many times in my life and career I’ve had to do these things alone, and leave the person I love at home sitting on the couch because I wasn’t brave enough to bring him and I wasn’t out. So this is monumental for both of us tonight.

Country Music Singer Comes Out

Billy Gilman is the second male country artist to come out.  The first was Ty Herndon and he came out not too long ago.  It is an incredibly hard industry to break into for queer artists and you can see his struggle in this video.  Something I didn't realize was that Billy was the youngest singer to land a top 40 hit at age 11 back in 2000 for his song 'The Voice".  I really hope he has success in the future and that people look beyond who he loves and focus on his music.  I know, I dream pretty big.

Miranda Lambert Supports Being Yourself

Miranda Lambert is super pleased with country music stations playing her latest single, 'All Kinds of Kinds'.  Considering the content it is still very popular.
Yeah, it’s pretty crazy that country radio embraced cross-dressing and played it on the radio. It’s fricking awesome, actually. I think it’s really cool that that song was able to be a single. I love that song — it really came at a good time in my life. I had to just sort of come to this realization that it was all about being who you are, no matter what you are about, where you come from, what color you are, or if you’re gay or straight, or whatever it is. I was just getting to that point in my life where I was starting to accept people for who they are, and myself.

Gay Country Song

Steve Grand is a broke musician who may not have to worry about paying his rent next month. His first music video, for "All-American Boy," was posted on YouTube last Tuesday. It has exploded, having more than 400,000 views, which is insane for an unknown artist.  The video cost just $7,000 to make, a tiny amount but when you're broke that all goes on your credit card.  The song is about a gay guy who misreads signals from his 'straight' male buddy.  He tries to kiss him and his buddy runs away.  The best part is that in the end his friend still accepts him for who he is, although poor Steve does not get what he wants.
