Jane Lynch Is Not Just a Lesbian

In a conference call with press, Jane Lynch explained that she won't be involved in any gay themed humor when she hosts the Emmys in September, saying

I'm a person, not just a gay person. So I don't focus on gay things like that. I just focus on good jokes and being funny. I've thought of every aspect of it, I'm very much collaborating with everybody.

While I do love some gay themed humour that's not at the expense of gay people, I have to admit that I appreciate the angle she's coming from here. She's a lesbian on an extremely gay show. It's good that she knows and wants other people to know that being gay is on;y a little bit of a whole person. But I really like Jane Lynch, so if she decided the world needed more gay and made nothing but gay jokes the whole time, I'd probably be defending that, too. But, hey, at least I can admit my bias...

Lady Gage Goes Jo Calderone for My Personal Enjoyment (Or the VMA's - Who Can Say for Sure?)

Because someone up there loves me, Lady Gaga did the entire VMA awards show as Jo Calderone, her ever so fabulous drag persona. I can't get the official video because I live in the great white north, but here's a version that doesn't insist I become an American to get my fill of my favorite drag king.

New Recruits?

photo from JustJarad.

Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep tied for Best Actress at the Critic’s Choice Awards last night (Meryl for Julie & Julia and Sandy for The Blind Side). So I suppose the natural thing for them to do is kiss?

Cynthia Nixon Gets Another Award

Cynthia Nixon won an Emmy for Outstanding guest Actress in a Drama Series. She played Janis Donovan in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. She already has another Emmy from 2004 as well as a Tony for Best Actress in a Play. And she still looks pretty damned good, judging by this one picture I could find of her at the Emmys.

I read a little while ago that Law & Order: SVU was extremely popular with lesbians. I don't really watch much TV (outside of ANTM that I've avoided blogging about because it makes me angry...) but I'll admit to having watched that show a few times. It' cheesy and poorly acted. What's the appeal to lesbians?

Ellen Reigns Supreme

Unsurprisingly, Ellen DeGeneres won the Daytime Emmy for Best Talk Show for the fourth year in a row. I don't care for talk shows, and I'm not usually home to watch them, but my partner watches Ellen, and I have to say, I really don't mind the show at all. It's cute and fun. Or maybe it's just that Ellen is cute and fun. Either way, congratulations Ellen!

Mwah!

Portia de Rossi plants a kiss on fiance Ellen DeGeneres at the Daytime Emmy Awards. They're so cute! I don't know if it's just something about this picture, but their hair is the exact same color. I know they say long term couples start to look alike and all, but they should really, really just keep looking like their own hot selves. The middle ground between the two women is not nearly as sexy for either of them...

Ellen vs Oprah

It seems based on Emmy nominations that Ellen may be taking over Oprah's throne as the queen of daytime talk shows. Oprah's show received three nominations including lighting, sound and video control, while Ellen received eight nominations including Best Talk Show Jost and Outstanding Talk Show. Oprah did not submit her name for consideration and so she's not eligible, but she has recently seen a decline in viewer ratings while Ellen has gained, so I think it's safe to assume that Ellen would likely have received these nominations anyhow.

Go Ellen!
