Fewer Gays, but Fox Leads the Way in Network

GLAAD has released it's 16th annual "Where We Are on TV" report and it seems that there are to be fewer regularly appearing LGBT characters on network TV this year. Over all the numbers are down from 3.9% of regular characters last season to 2.9%. Or, to put it in real numbers, we now have 19 out of almost 650 roles, where we once had 23 out of nearly 600 roles. Only five of the 19 current roles are non-white actors. The more surprising thing about this survey was that the most inclusive network channel was FOX. I wonder if they are as surprised as I am...

Unsurprisingly, though LGBT characters were fewer in cable TV as well, HBO still led the diversity team, followed closely by Showtime.
