The gay film Dunno Y ... Na Jaane Kyun, opened in India to mixed reactions Friday. It's the first movie to portray a gay romance, an affair between two middle class Mumbai men. It includes scenes of the men kissing and sharing a bed. It was scheduled to be released in May but was held up for further editing, as director Sanjay Sharma dealt with government censors. Actors Yuvraaj Parashar and Kapil Sharma both faced negative repercussions for their participation in the film. Parashar says his family has disowned him; Sharma has had support from family and friends, but he says he has received threatening letters from strangers. Gay activists in India welcomed the release and hopefully it will create awareness for queers in India.
