David Hyde Pierce revealed on The View that back when it was still legal he had married his long-time partner Brian Hargrove. Us reports:
Although he is fiercely private about his personal life, he said he felt compelled to speak up now in light of California upholding anti-gay marriage initiative Proposition 8 this past week.
"Brian and I always kept a low profile. We didn't hide our lives," Pierce said. "We got married very quietly last October 24 and thought that was fine, and then suddenly the state of California said, 'No, it's not.'"
Although his marriage is still valid (their ceremony was conducted when the practice was legal), he isn't satisfied.
He said it's like, "'Oh, great -- you made the cut.'"
So outraged, Pierce said he is now participating in gay rights rallies.
"Can you imagine if you're married, [and] the people in your state getting together and saying, 'Well, you know what, you're not,'" he said. "It's a very odd thing."
He said he felt "very angry" this past Tuesday sitting in front of his television, wondering, "'Gee, I hope it's OK the Supreme Court thinks I'm married.' Excuse me, it's none of your business."
A very belated congratulations to the couple. (Any chance of some wedding pictures now?) It's good to see more people coming out, so to speak, to join the cause and support the rallies and protests about idiotic legislation. It's surprising how many celebrities managed to get married in secret, like Wanda Sykes. Maybe we'll hear of a few more...
