Nicole And Charlize Back to Queer Roles

Link
Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron have signed on to star in "The Danish Girl". The independant film is based on the true story of Einar and Greta Wegener, two Danish artists. The married, hetero couple came into a little unexpected fun after Einar, played by Kidman modeled in place of a female for Greta, played by Theron.

When their portraits become wildly popular in 1920s Copenhagen, Greta encouraged her husband to adopt the female guise. What began as a harmless game led Einer to a metamorphosis and landmark 1931 operation that shocked the world and threatened their love.

Einar goes on to become the first post-op transexual. Nicole won an Oscar for "The Hours" and Charlize won one for "Monster", so neither of them is new to queer-on-screen. But in those films both women got uglied up a little, so I'm hoping for a more aesthetically pleasing character from at least one of these women this time around. Or even if Kidman plays an ugly woman, maybe she could be a really hot guy? Not too picky, here, I just want to see some queers on screen that look as nice as their het counterparts.

Apparently Kidman is also signed up to play bisexual Dusty Springfield in an upcoming biopic. So maybe historical queer female characters are the new black.
