Out lesbian athlete Ireen Wust of the Netherlands celebrated winning three gold medals after her win in the women's 3,000 meter speed skating race in Sochi.  It must piss off Russia officials every time an openly gay person takes home medals.

Canadian Speed Skater Proud Gay

Canadian Olympic speed Skater Anastasia Bucsis says she is proud to be gay and that no athlete should feel they have to hide in Russia.  She competes in the long-track races and came out to friends and family two years ago.  She has joined a growing number of athletes who are advocating change to Russia's anti-gay laws.

I…have faith in Russia, I think — I hope — that things will get better.

New Zealand Speed Skater Comes Out

24 year old New Zealand speed skater Blake Skjellerup, who competed at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, has come out in an interview with an Australian magazine. I'm happy to hear his team mates all new and no one treated him any different. He didn't say anything at the games because he wanted to focus on the competition and he also says he is dating another competitive athlete but doesn't want to give his name.
