Another Trudeau Made Histody Today

 Today in history, then Justice Minister Pierre Trudeau made history in Canada in 1968 by pushing for a bill decriminalizing homosexuality.  This was huge and it makes me smile to think that his son Justin is currently our Prime Minister and continues his family's legacy of supporting the LGBT community.

Merle Haggard Leaves Estate to LGBT Group

The world lost a country legend on April 6 when Merle Haggard passed away.  I grew up listening to his music with my grand parents.  I didn't know he was such a huge supporter of equal rights.  He left his entire estate to Interpride Enterprises, a California based LGBT group that puts on Pride parades around the world.  The group plans on doing something special this year in his honour at San Francisco's pride.

The LGBT community was well represented with some beautifully dressed people.  Sarah Paulson, Jim Parsons and Laverne Cox looked amazing at the SAG awards.  Lori Petty took a big risk but I'm not sure she's making any best dressed lists but I commend her for taking a long shot.

State Of The Union Address Makes History

Barack Obama made history once again with the 2015 State of the Union Address.  For the first time ever, LGBT were mentioned.  A far cry from the cringing I would do when George W. Bush spoke.

Taylor Swift Wins Back My Love

I have to admit I stopped loving Taylor Swift awhile ago.  I was hoping she would grow out of her teenage angst stage and stop writing about boys who did her wrong.  I'm happy to report that with her new album 1989, she has won me back.  During the IHeartRadio concert this past fall she sang 'I Knew You Were Trouble' and changed the lyrics to "When the saddest fear, comes creeping in, that she never loved me, or her, or anyone or anything".  Pretty bold move but that wasn't the end of it. Her latest release 'Welcome to New York', also has powerful lyrics "When we first dropped our bags on apartment floors, took our broken hearts, put them in a drawer. Everybody here was someone else before. And you can want who you want, boys and boys and girls and girls".  She is flaunting her support for the LGBT community and it rocks.

Marriott Hotel Supports LGBT

Marriott Hotels want LGBT travellers to know they're welcome to stay with them.  They even started a campaign called #LoveTravels for Pride season.  This makes me very happy when big businesses show their support.  Jason Collins and his boyfriend (for the life of me I can't find his name) pose for the campaign along with other celebrities.

Obama Makes June Pride Month

President Obama declared the month of June Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month via a proclamation that also called on people to eliminate prejudice against LGBT people.

Miley Cyrus Shows Gay Couple on Kiss Cam

Miley Cyrus is currently touring for her Bangerz Tour and during the show she has a kiss cam that shows people in the audience.  At one of her recent shows she showed a picture of a gay couple kissing and it received huge cheers from her audience.  Despite her crazy behaviour she has always been very supportive of LGBT and kudos for her to standing up for what she believes in.  Although, I'm fairly certain she is bi-sexual, it's awesome regardless.

Heineken Boycotts Parade

Looks like Guinness is not the only sponsor pulling it's support over not allowing LGBT to March in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York City.  I truly love that these two huge beer companies support diversity and are standing up for the LGBT community.  They could have ignored the homophobia and reaped the rewards but instead they took a stand.  This was what they released as a response:

We believe in equality for all. We are no longer a sponsor of Monday's parade.

Guinness Pulls Out of New York Parade

Guinness has pulled out of the New York St. Patrick's Day Parade over the ban of letting LGBT openly march. Guinness says they support diversity and will not promote exclusion. This should put a lot of pressure on the organisers because Guinness is a huge sponsor to lose.
