Cynthia Nixon Responds to Backlash

Cynthia Nixon was not very popular for saying being gay is a choice. Of course the media blew it way out of proportion and she clarified what she meant. I think her response is well said.
My recent comments in The New York Times were about me and my personal story of being gay. I believe we all have different ways we came to the gay community and we can't and shouldn't be pigeon-holed into one cultural narrative which can be uninclusive and disempowering. However, to the extent that anyone wishes to interpret my words in a strictly legal context I would like to clarify: While I don't often use the word, the technically precise term for my orientation is bisexual. I believe bisexuality is not a choice, it is a fact. What I have 'chosen' is to be in a gay relationship. As I said in the Times and will say again here, I do, however, believe that most members of our community — as well as the majority of heterosexuals — cannot and do not choose the gender of the persons with whom they seek to have intimate relationships because, unlike me, they are only attracted to one sex. Our community is not a monolith, thank goodness, any more than America itself is. I look forward to and will continue to work toward the day when America recognizes all of us as full and equal citizens.

Cynthia Nixon - Gay is a Choice

Cynthia Nixon has pissed a lot of people off with her latest interview with the New York Times. She believes that she is gay by choice and not by birth. The main problem for people with her argument is it opens the flood gates for the anti-gay movement to say, 'I told you so'. Although that being said, I think it is narrow minded to shoot her down and she has every right to express how she feels.
I say it doesn’t matter if we flew here or we swam here, it matters that we are here and we are one group and let us stop trying to make a litmus test for who is considered gay and who is not

FIGHT BACK: A message from Cynthia Nixon

Cynthia Nixon reviews the celebrities who have contributed videos for Fight Back New York in the past year, including Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Rosie Perez, Alec Baldwin, and Whoopi Goldberg. She also reminds viewers of recent successes at the ballot box. “For the first time ever, elected officials know that there are real consequences to voting against our rights.” I can't wait until this bullshit can only be read about in history books.

The ever so lovely Cynthia Nixon encouraging New Yorkers to fight to get the senators who voted against equal marriage out of office. I'm interested to hear their strategy. I hope they're successful.

Cynthia Nixon Engaged

Cynthia Nixon has announced her engagement to her partner of over five years, Christine Marinoni - sort of. Access Hollywood reports that Nixon told a crowd at the Love, Peace and Marriage Equality rally in New York City, that she got engaged a month ago, but only wants to get married if it's legal.

Actors Kristen Davis, David Hyde Pierce, Audra McDonald and Ana Oritz also appeared at the event, which was sponsored by BroadwayImpact.com to support New York Governor David Paterson’s proposed bill granting legal equality to same-sex unions, another source on the scene told Access. Kristen appeared on stage with her “Sex” co-star but did not speak.

“I think we would definitely [get married] if it became legal in New York,” Cynthia told Access’ Shaun Robinson in an interview last year. “I don’t really want to get married to get married pretend. I think we’d like to do it in a real, actual, legal way that the state would recognize.”

Congrats to the happy couple. Here's hoping you can make it legal.

Cynthia Nixon at A Man for All Seasons

She looks pretty good, but that skirt is a terrible length for her. She looks like an old woman from the waist down.

Cynthia Nixon Gets Another Award

Cynthia Nixon won an Emmy for Outstanding guest Actress in a Drama Series. She played Janis Donovan in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. She already has another Emmy from 2004 as well as a Tony for Best Actress in a Play. And she still looks pretty damned good, judging by this one picture I could find of her at the Emmys.

I read a little while ago that Law & Order: SVU was extremely popular with lesbians. I don't really watch much TV (outside of ANTM that I've avoided blogging about because it makes me angry...) but I'll admit to having watched that show a few times. It' cheesy and poorly acted. What's the appeal to lesbians?

Cynthia Nixon Gets a Boob Job?

Page Six is reporting that shortly after the release of Sex and the City both Cynthia Nixon and Kirsten Davis had a little work done. They claim that Kirsten went in for varicose veins, while Cynthia had breast augmentation. Nixon's rep denies the surgery and Davis' rep had no comment.

I almost don't even consider varicose vein work to be work. That's just not the same as a boob job at all and totally not news worthy. (Besides, she's very much not queer anyhow.) As for Cynthia Nixon, who knows? Do many lesbians get plastic surgery? I never really thought to ask. Maybe since femme became the new androgyny it's what all the cool kids are doing...

The Queers at the SATC NYC Premier

Ok, so there are only two that I know of. Obviously, Cynthia Nixon was there. Her dress is all right, I suppose, but she looks so tired of all of this. No sign that I could find of her partner.

Oddly enough, Samantha Ronson was there as well. Is Sex and the City a lesbian thing these days? (I have to admit, I do like it...) Now, I think Sam is kinda cute, but she really needs to get a few changes of clothes. Surely that isn't the outfit for every occasion...
