Lance Bass & Clay Aiken at Prom

Clay Aiken and Lance Bass are the newest gays with a part on Drop Dead Diva. The episode will feature a bit inspired by the true story of Constance McMillen, the teenager denied access to her high school prom due to her sexual orientation. Costars include Wanda Sykes and Margaret Cho. Aiken and Bass will make guest appearances in the prom episode, alongside McMillen herself.

McMillen Sent to Fake Prom

As if Constance McMillen hasn't been through enough, local breeders in her community decided to set up a 'fake' prom to stop her lesbian shenanigans from making an appearance. McMillen got dressed up and went to her prom to find out their was only seven people that had attended. The rest of her class, along with their parents, set up another queer-free prom somewhere else and hid it from her. Two of the other students who were also banned from the regular prom were mentally delayed. Apparently, not only are her classmates homophobic but it appears they hate anyone who doesn't fit the mold. McMillen says they all had the time of their lives because they were able to be themselves.

Ellen Gives Scholarship to Constance McMillen

When Constance McMillen wanted to take her girlfriend to her prom and wear a tux, the school said no same sex dates and girls could only wear gowns. When she kicked up a fuss about her school's homophobic policies, her school cancelled prom for everyone. Constance stuck to her guns and Ellen has given her a reward - a $30 000 scholarship, saying:

"I admire you so much," she told the 18-year-old senior from Itawamba Agricultural High School. "When I was your age I never would have had the strength to do what you are doing."

Ellen also offered to host a private prom for McMillen's class. I can't say anything snarky about this. I think it's amazing. Kudos to Ellen and Constance both.
