The beautiful Mollie Thomas will be the first openly gay woman running for Miss California. I hope she sweeps the competition and I'm sure this will reopen the proposition 8 debate! I can't wait for the bathing suit portion :)

Carrie Prejean's Mom is Queer

I had decided not to write anything about Carrie Prejean because I didn't want the fame-whore bigot to get any more attention than she did already. But the new news about her mom made me change my mind. So here's a brief re-cap:

Carrie Prejean won the Miss California competition and went on to compete in the Miss America competition. During the part where they try to make the women answer questions to pretend it's not all about breasts, Perez Hilton (one of the judges, and an out gay man) asked her about same sex marriage. She was against it. Her actual response here. She lost the competition, then joined an anti-gay marriage group as a spokesperson. Drama ensued. Shanna Moakler (above, because I don't want to look at Prejean) worked for the Miss California organization and publicly bashed Prejean. Other drama involving topless photos and breaset implants happened. Prejean was allowed to keep her crown, and Moakler resigned from the organization. Prejean continues to fight against equality.

Now, it turns out that Prejean's mother, Francine Coppola might just be a closeted lesbian herself. Star reports that Coppola was involved with another woman right until her daughter lost the Miss USA competition after the notorious question round:

That statement didn't sit so well with her mom's new girlfriend. Openly gay sales rep Valerie Vetrano tells Star exclusively, "Yes, Francine and I dated."

However, the affair was doomed, says a source. "Francine explained how she was a Christian and that her loved ones would never accept her if she were gay," the friend says. When Valerie asked her what would happen if she told her daughter Carrie about the two of them, Francine responded, “Carrie would never believe it!”

Now here's yet another reason to never stay in the closet. If you do, and then one day you have a daughter who is more concerned with breast size than human rights, said daughter might humiliate you and herself with her own ignorance and idiocy that you could have helped to stop.
